This was book 2 in The Loan Shark Duet . This book picks up where the first book left off Valentina finds out that she is going to have a baby and she runs away along with Charlie her brother. Gabriel is worried about Val he knows that she is having his baby and she has no money. This was a really good book I hated his mother Magda and his ex Sylvia in this book we find out the real reason why she wants Val and her brother dead and it is unbelievable. Val and her brother are homeless sleeping in a car that her so called friend Jerry got for them she finds a job, but when she gets sick and has to be taken to the hospital her boss fires her and that is how Gabriel finds her and takes them home and forces her to marry him. The sex scenes in this book were hot and Val loves everything that Gabriel has taught her the sex scenes in bathroom was really hot when she tells him that she is in love with him he doesn't believe her. Gabriel has done a lot of things to and for Val and her brother also for her friend Kris and her clinic. In this book we get to how Val grew into her own woman and I liked the change in her and in Gabriel he wants to be a better man for her and it pissed off his mother. When Gabriel tells his ex and his daughter Carly they don't take it well the daughter was a spoiled brat who got in trouble with drugs Val includes her with helping with the baby. Gabriel also gets them their own house which really makes his mother mad and I really didn't like what she did to Charlie. When Magda gives Val a file she finds out the truth about what happened to her and she goes into labor and has a baby boy Connor. This was a really book that had me in tears when Gabriel died. This book has violence and hot sex Val learned how to take care of herself and her family and when she run into a man at the market her feeling comes true. I really liked this series Gabriel was not a pretty boy he was an alpha male and a killer. This book was well written like the first book in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. If you like reading dark erotica than I recommend that you read this series.

This is one of those reviews that I dread writing as a reader because I know there's no way I will be able to write anything that can come close to doing this book justice. The Loan Shark Duet by Charmaine Pauls seriously puts the reader through the ringer in the best and worst of ways... and I loved every minute of it!! Gabriel and Valentina's love story is one of those epically amazing sagas that grabs hold of you and doesn't let go from start to finish. Beautifully written and smartly crafted, this is a story full of twists and turns, with well-timed humor as well as poignant, insightful moments that will gut you, and flawed, yet redeemable multi-faceted characters that will stay with you long after the story is done because they are just so real and authentic. In the final analysis, as they say, it's simply a phenomenal story that is not to be missed. Highly recommend this two-part series!
Consent is the follow up to Dubious in the stunning Loan Shark Duet. This one picks up right where we left off. In this book we have Gabriel and Valentina, who are struggling with pregnancy, marriage, family issues and so much more. The intensity in their relationship is combustible. Can these two handle all the things that life throws at them? Will Valentina realize Gabriel's feelings for her are sincere? As the story develops more secrets will be revealed which could make or break these two. Consent was dark, sexy, bold, powerful, tragic and astonishing.This book brings out all sorts of emotions and leaves you with the feels. I thought it was fantastic and can't wait to read more from this author. The Loan Shark Duet is a must read!
I have not read any of Ms. Pauls work so I didn't really expect much. When I started reading it, at first I thought it was going to be awful, turns out it was fantastic. Gabriel is a mean,cruel criminal with lots of money and nobody ever telling him no. Valentina is a girl from one of the poorest neighborhoods around; she is taking care of her brother Charlie who suffered brain damage from a car accident. Bless Valentina, this poor girl has been through so much just to survive so when Gabriel came to enslave her for Charlie's gambling debt, she agreed to his terms to keep her brother alive. Little did either Gabriel or Valentina know where they would end up. Gabriel is horribly insecure and desperate to keep his mother from killing Valentina, he makes a decision on his own to change her life even more than enslavement for nine years. Gabriel isn't mean to Valentina except in bed, exactly where she loves it. His extremely obsessive and possessive of her, even when his mother pushes him to finally kill her. Gabriel suffered his own tragic events. In the end Gabriel bargains with Valentina's life and stands by his vow. Valentina is hard working,loving, compassionate, go getter that people are drawn to and in the end she succeeds bigger than expected. I cannot review anymore than that or I will spoil the book and I refuse to do that. I love the series, it will be one I re-read. It will make you so mad, sad, compassionate, and from time to time laugh. The drama is excellent and the sex is fantastically HOT! Great series, I can't do Anything but, highly recommend.
