I'd lief give this one 3.5 stars, If I could, but since there are no half-stars I settled with three. It was a fun read, frothy and quick, yet it managed to stay quite charming. I do feel, however, that it was *too* light. The chapters were quite short and not at all like Heyer or Austen, without much description of setting and background. It didn't detract from the story, per se, but it was not what I was used to, and I still can't figure out whether I like it or not. I think this book is for avid regency readers - first read Heyer's novels to get a proper sense of setting, then proceed to this one to enjoy its characters.
For all its quirks the characters were a fun study. I loved the hero and the heroine and the side characters...even though they didn't get quite as much development as I'm used to seeing in regencies.
General consensus? It was...okay. I won't be buying anything else from the author though, not at these crazy shipping prices.

If you want a deep book this is not it . This is a fun, fast moving book that you won't want to put down and are sorry when it's finished. Read this book if you don't want to think, just enjoy. I love all Devon's book and this is no exception.
When spinster Claudia Wentworth realized that her 15 year-old niece, Evelina, had eloped with one Rupert Hunt, she gave chase. Along the way she found his elder brother, Lord Thornton, in the middle of a bout of wagering and excess drinking. Convincing him it is for the best, they took off together to stop the young couple from making a big mistake. What they did not realize is the teenagers had already figured that out for themselves.
In the meantime, the young women formed a relationship with the gentlemen's aunt and became her guests at her home for a fortnight. During this time Claudia saw her old flame, the man who broke their engagement years before to marry a prosperous young lady. Except, upon seeing Claudia again, he hoped to rekindle the romance...even though he is married....with a child on the way.
There is also a Russian Cossack that pursues her -AND- her attempt at getting her first book published. Lots of muckity-muck, with several moments thrown in bantering with Thornton. Oh, and the aunt that was previously mentioned, is playing a matchmaking game.
This is a clean traditional Regency with some funny moments. Claudia and 'Thorn' manage to get onto each other's nerves several times. Unfortunately the chemistry wasn't all that great. I wished Ms. Devon didn't introduce so many outside elements; instead, have the couple spend more time together. Then their HEA would have been believable.
I'd lief give this one 3.5 stars, If I could, but since there are no half-stars I settled with three.
