Well, I think this had to have been my least favorite book by this author. I did enjoy the story, and most importantly, I came to love and hate these characters. My main issue is that I was never able to come up with exactly what was going on. Sure, I had plenty of ideas, but nothing really solid. So I was expecting to at least be clued in at the finish. Nope. Heck, im still scratching my head over the thing! Mr. Lindqvist is one of my very favorite authors, and granted, every author will have a few books that I'm going to be unhappy with. What I really hate is that he's a Swedish author, and it sometimes takes years for his work to get translated. I did enjoy the story, but that ending was just awful.

What a meandering piece of boredom
At least that's what I think
Am I not smart enough to understand the storyline
I don't recommend this book
The universe hinted at in this book was horrific. Left me wondering what other terrors I wasn't seeing.
Yes, it is surrealistic, so don't expect all questions answered. Although, it is written so well, so dynamic and characters are so alive and complex, that I enjoyed every page. It ended so soon!
The only thing that keeps you reading this long and ridiculous story is the possibility the author has some kind of explanatory ending in store.
He doesn't.
As an examination of human frailties and the nightmares that haunt us, it's a passable piece of work.
As an attempt at horror and cashing in on some inexplicable modern fascination with zombies and blood-sucking it might go down well with readers into that sort of thing.
But I just found it tiresome, an overly long saga whose interest was barely sustained by the possibility that there was a revelation coming that would make it all okay.
There wasn't.
More like half a star actually, the story went no where, nothing made any sense or even attempted to and the ending was as if the writer got sick of their own writing and just abruptly stopped. Would not recommend
I had read that the author was Sweden's Stephen King but was disappointed when he wasn't. The story is vague about the cause of events and seemed capricious in their relationships. The language is common without any lyricism. This may also be a result of the translation.
I bought this book on the strength of a review, but for the life of me could not work what was going on. Well written and I can imagine the settings and had no problem with the description, but I still have no idea what the author was getting at. Maybe he was just to clever for me. Might just go back Lee Child and John Grisham novels..
